Schools Week
One of the Largest Schools Outreach Programme in the UK
Our aim is to delight and inspire the readers and writers of the future.
Our five day Schools Week offers talks and workshops to young people from preschool to Sixth Form with visits from acclaimed authors and illustrators. Members of the Schools Team liaise with the schools and authors to ensure that everyone has the best possible experience.
This year's Schools Week will take place w/c 3rd October 2022.
In 2021 our Schools Week provided a fleet of top quality writers who delighted audiences from four to 18 years. Despite some small Covid disruptions, we proud to host 25 authors and run 130 events during the week. In total, 50 schools were visited across North Devon and Torridge.
It is so important that children meet these real life authors who talk about their own childhoods and how they began to write. The children can experience authors as real people just like them, people who can create stories and poems without any superpowers or privilege or gifted opportunities. This, we believe, is what can really help to get children reading and writing with confidence and enjoyment.
Our Schools Week would not be possible without the support of our dedicated team of volunteer stewards who drive the authors to far-flung venues. We would also like to thank our sponsors and grant makers, including Fullabrook CIC, Balsdon Trust, Norman Family Charitable Trust, Sir John and Lady Amory's Charitable Trust and local Rotary Clubs, who helped to make these exceptional events possible.
For information about the authors that took part in this year's Schools Week, please visit our Meet the Children's Authors page.
