At the age of seventeen, after a childhood in a foster family and six years in care homes, Norman Greenwood was given his birth certificate. Norman was not his real name, it was Lemn Sissay. He learned that his mother had been pleading for his safe return to her since his birth. This is Lemn’s story, one of cruelty and neglect, determination and triumph. Lemn Sissay (MBE) is one of Britain’s best loved, award-winning poets and performers.
