Why we need your help...
COVID-19 has had a devastating effect on many literary and cultural festivals, with many being cancelled or becoming online virtual events. Last September, against all the odds, the Appledore Book Festival delivered a live Festival in the form of a safe, socially distanced Drive-In. This became the UK’s first ever drive-in book festival.
However, the additional infrastructure needed to deliver this alternative festival was expensive and, coupled with many supporters unable to travel or self-isolating, we saw a drop in our ticket sales. This resulted in a financial loss.
This year, there is still so much uncertainty around live events and public safety - therefore we believe a festival that can deliver a safe and secure festival is the best option. To do this we need to raise some additional funds for this year's September Festival. With funding in place we plan to deliver a four-day outdoor festival, followed by six-days in village venues.
Funding raised will enable us to put in place the necessary infrastructure needed to ensure public safety, as well providing us with suitable venues to attract world-renowned authors, illustrators, poets and performers.
