Appledore Book Festival is more
– yes, even more – than a fantastic celebration of words and
writing in one of England’s loveliest locations. It’s also
an educational event – a catalyst for joyful reading for
thousands of local children through the schools programme.
Every weekday authors will be visiting local schools and
presenting talks and signing their books. Here are the
authors who will be taking part:

Geraldine
McCaughrean
(Supported by Oxford University Press)
Prize winning best-selling author of
over 140 books, Geraldine’s most
publicized book, commissioned by Great
Ormond Street Hospital, Peter Pan in
Scarlet is the first official sequel to
J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan and Wendy.
Dreams are leaking out of Neverland and,
if he just knew it, Peter needs the help
of Wendy and the Lost Boys more than
ever before. Magical stuff!

Matt Chamings

Matt lives in north Devon and writes
children’s novels. His work is best
described as historical adventure with a
twist. Time Switch was published in 2004
followed by The Medici Curse in 2007.
The Financial Times describes it as
‘sharp and elegant, everything The Da
Vinci Code would like to be when it
grows up’.

Kjartan Poskitt
(Supported by Scholastic)
Genius doesn’t come much madder than
Poskitt. Creator of the most incredible
characters that have all the numerical
answers Kjartan Poskitt is the talent
behind the incredibly successful
Murderous Maths series and the laugh out
loud Urgum the Axeman books.

Two Steves
The two Steves form the UK’s most
popular writing double act for young
people. They were a huge hit at last
year’s festival and their appearance
this year will only add to their army of
young fans.

David Chaffe
David Chaffe is dedicated to supporting,
protecting and preserving wild nature
and the natural balance of our planet.
His latest publication, Face to Face –
with nature, describes his lifetime’s
work. David’s young audience is sure to
be delighted and entranced by his
fascinating presentation illustrated
with his immensely appealing barn owl.

Vivian
French
Appledore Book Festival favourite and
multi-talented writer and story teller,
Vivian French has had over 200 books
published. Her creations include the
ever popular and successful Tiara Club
and Draglin books. The popular tale The
Robe of Skulls and its sequel Bag of
Bones are spine chillingly exciting. Her
audiences will be riveted – hopefully
not literally. |

Tanya Landman
A massive success last year, Tanya
is back by huge demand. Author of Apache
and the upcoming Goldsmith’s Daughter,
she has also written many books for
younger children, including the Flotsam
and Jetsam series. Tanya is a wonderful
inspiration to creative children and
their teachers.

David
Kennard
David, a working Devon shepherd, has
seen his career take some unusual turns
in recent years, to film-making and
writing. David will bring his
experiences of farming into the
classroom and will be assisted by his
much loved, and nearly-equally famous,
dog, Mist.

Sam
Llewellyn
(Supported by Puffin Books)
Highly acclaimed author of children’s
books, Sam has successfully combined
lunacy with rock and roll. Fans will be
pleased to learn that Death Eric is not
dead, but will be present in word and
song through Sam.

Tony Mitton
Hugely experienced in delivering
school presentations from Nursery
through to Top Juniors, Tony’s fun
performances involve action verse and
humorous rhymes from his marvellous
books of poetry from Plum to Rap Rhymes.

Jeremy Strong
