The Appledore Book Festival welcomes everyone and is keen to help those with disabilities.

If you have any queries or concerns please contact the Appledore Book Festival Box Office at Docton Court Gallery on (01237) 424949 or e-mail us here.

Toilets

There are toilets at all the festival venues.

There are also public toilets in the Churchfield Car Park in Appledore, including disabled toilet facilities.

Access to Venues

All venues will have stewards on the door who will be happy to help with wheelchairs or pushchairs.

Please inform a steward if your disability requires a seat with additional leg room.

Loops for the hard of hearing

Appledore Baptist Chapel and St. Mary's Church have induction loops for the hard of hearing.

Please inform stewards if you need help.

The speakers at all the larger events in every venue will use microphones.

Transport to Appledore

The Torridge Community Transport Association is a local charity that aims to provide a ‘transport safety net’ for those with no other transport options at the time that they need to travel.
They would be happy to try to assist folk wishing to attend the Appledore Book Festival who would not otherwise be able to experience this event. Transport can be provided via a Voluntary Car Service, Community Group Minibus Hire, or Bideford Taxi-voucher scheme.
For further information, or to book a journey (giving at least 2 working days notice), please ring 01237 423232, or visit www.torridge-cta.org.uk

Wheelchair Accessibility

St. Mary’s Church

The Church is on one level, but there is a small step at the entrance.

Stewards will be happy to help disabled visitors.

Please let a steward know if your disability requires a seat with extra leg-room.

If you have a back problem, please feel free to bring your own cushion.

Please note that the speaker system in the Church will be enhanced and improved for the 2010 season.

St. Mary’s Hall

There is a small flight of steps up to the front entrance of the Hall

Wheelchair users will need to enter the building from the rear, but will require assistance of a steward.

Appledore Hall

Wheelchair users please use the entrance in the yard at the front of the building.

The rest of the venue is on the level.

Baptist Chapel

The Baptist Chapel is fully accessible for wheelchair users.

Blue Lights Hall

There are two steps at the entrance to this building, and the entrance doorways are narrow.

We regret that this venue is not suitable for full wheelchair access.

Information for Families

Events designed for families and children are denoted in the Authors and Tickets section of this website and the Festival brochure. Where relevant, guidance is given to the age of children the event is designed for. Children are of course welcome to attend the adult events with their parents or carers. For safety reasons and out of consideration for others, we advise parents to keep children close to them and under supervision at all times during events.
